While the corona virus has affected motorsport including, it hasn’t fared as bad as initially expected throughout 2020. Past year proved plenty eventful and most traditional motorsport events have taken place, albeit without the spectators in many cases. With the Dakar Rally of January 2021 closed, the upcoming Daytona 500 on its way, and the new F1 season just warming up until it kicks off a few months away, this year has started strongly and promises to be equally engaging for petrolheads. Here are 5 motorsports’ calendars to watch for in 2021:
1. World Rally Championship
Dakar is done, yet the WRC is well on its way with the Monte-Carlo Rally taking place as we write this blog post, until January 24th. The Rally of Finland is next, planned for February 26 – 28, followed by the Rally of Croatia in April 22 – 25, Rally of Portugal in May 20 – 23, Rally of Italy in June 3 – 6, Rally Kenya later in June 24-27, Rally Estonia in July 15 – 18, Rally Finland next July 29 – August 1, closing of the WRC championship strongly with the Rally of Great Britain August 19 – 22. Rally fans out there take note!
2. NASCAR Cup Series
NASCAR season is starting with the Busch Clash at Daytona, February 9, culminating with the DAYTONA 500 February 14, where the historic “Great American Race” will crown the Daytona 500 champion. For the rest of the 2021 NASAR cup series schedule, and in order to buy tickets please follow the link. All races of the 2021 season offer tickets, hence attendance is planned as normal. Meanwhile the NASCAR Cup Series Championship closes off November 7th at the Phoenix Raceway in AZ.
Another American classic, is planning to start on April 18th at the Barber Motorsports Park, followed by the spectacular Streets of St Petersburg, Florida road course set for April 25th. The 105th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 30th. However all events as of now are TBD and fans should follow with the official website to confirm the actual dates of the IndyCar series events. Keeping fingers crossed!
4. 24H series and WEC
The world of endurance racing has kicked of strongly with the 6H Abu Dhabi taking place now, January 22-23. The rest of the 24H Series calendar looks equally promising with 7 more races planned for the rest of the year, culminating with the 24H Sebring race set for November 12-14. Meanwhile the World Endurance Championship (WEC) is launching the 2021 season with 8H of Portimão on April 4th, followed by 5 other endurance race events in the calendar for the rest of the year. Naturally, the 24H hours of Le Mans is the crowning event of the season. Fans should set in their calendars June 12 – 13, when the 89th edition of the biggest race in endurance racing will take place.
2021 season of Formula 1 isn’t long away, with the inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix of 2021 set for March 26-28 after the Australian Grand Prix has been moved to November. 2021 is scheduled with the biggest event calendar in Formula 1 history, with 23 races set to be contested this year. The next 2 races of the season are to be confirmed, the second race being tentatively planned to take place at Imola, and the host of the third grand prix of the season undecided as of yet. F1 fans should make sure to check the updated official calendar promising to be a stellar season.
